Many graduating U17 players and parents are not aware of what happens after a player graduates from minor lacrosse in to Senior lacrosse and the next 5 years of their lacrosse careers. Here is a simplified explanation for all graduating midget players.
JUNIOR ELIGIBILITY
You are eligible to play Junior lacrosse if you are in your 17th to 21st birth year.
THE DRAFT
If you have a Jr. A program in your catchment you are not eligible for the draft as they hold your playing rights. If you do not have a Jr. A program in your catchment then you are eligible for the draft. If you are drafted and you want to try out for Jr. A then you report to that team. If you are drafted and you do NOT wish to try out for Jr. A then you report as set out in the steps below (as per your residential catchment). If you are undrafted, you are a free agent unless you live in a Jr. A catchment area. If you are a free agent, it is entirely your choice which Jr. A team you wish to try out for.
IF YOU HAVE JR. A IN YOUR CATCHMENT (Juan de Fuca & Nanaimo)
If there is a Jr. A team in your residential catchment that team holds your playing rights therefore, if you are interested in playing Jr. A or B Tier 1 you must try out for the team in your catchment. If you do not want to play Jr. A or Jr. B Tier 1 then you must tryout out for the Jr. B Tier 2 in your catchment.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE JR. A IN YOUR CATCHMENT AND WERE NOT DRAFTED
(Campbell River, Comox Valley, Cowichan, Oceanside, Peninsula, Port Alberni, Saanich, Vic/Esquimalt)
If there is not a Jr. A program in your residential catchment and you were not drafted, you are free to try out for any Jr. A, Jr. B Tier 1, or Jr. B Tier 2 team based on your residential catchment.
